Trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship are absolutely essential. However, it is important to note that there are some important legal limitations to confidentiality within the therapeutic relationship.

As a mandated person, I may need to make a report for both children and adults who may be in harm's way. I will always discuss concerns with a client before making a report. The mandatory reporting laws in Ireland apply when clients reside in Ireland. Where a client resides in a different country, the reporting laws in their country of residence will apply.

I undergo regular supervision and mentoring which helps ensure the quality and effectiveness of my work. Any details which might make a client identifiable to a supervisor are withheld. However, it is absolutely your right to ask me not to discuss any details of your case with a supervisor and I will comply with and respect your choice.

For privacy purposes, client notes are stored in locked filing cabinets. These files are retained for 7 years as per the law. I am the only person with access to this information.
